The charge air cooler is a component that is part of the induction system designed to improve engine performance and efficiency. It also helps to improve fuel milage and reduce emissions.
The most common type of failure with charge air coolers is leaking. If your charge air cooler is leaking, it may have one or more of these symptoms:
1. Sudden or gradual loss of power
2. Decreased fuel mileage
3. Engine operating at a higher temperature
4. Excessive black exhaust smoke
5. Loss of boost from turbo charger or turbo failure
6. Exhaust manifold failure
7. Whistling sound coming from engine area
8. Piston, ring, or valve failure
